Due to
it's proximity to mainland Asia, Fukuoka has been a 'gateway
to southern Japan' for a long while. In fact this city is closer
to Seoul than it is to Tokyo.
Places to visit:
Tenjin - The cities commercial and shopping district.
All the usual department stores and upmarket boutiques can
be found.
Nakasu - An island on the Nakagawa river full of bars,
restaurants and nightclubs. Possibly too expensive for some
and a little too seedy for others.
Momochi - Futuristic in appearance, this area on the
waterfront accomodates the 'Fukuoka Tower' on top of which
one can enjoy a view of the city. There is also the Hawks
Town shopping complex and Fukuoka Dome which is home to
the "Fukuoka Softbanks Hawks" baseball team.
